Demultiplexing Video
Surveillance video in the original format isn't "human readable". While you may certainly look at the video, it often switches views at a dizzying rate. A multiplexer add frames from various cameras onto the same footage, sometimes this is event-driven (e.g. a cashier opens the cash drawer). As such, it is not trivial to look at a single camera's perspective without image processing to stitch frames from that camera together.
Below is a screen shot of a custom application developed for law enforcement. A multiplexed video (here, with 9 cameras) was demultiplexed into 9 individual video files, one for each camera view. Notes and custom labeling of the views is possible.
